Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are designed to automatically detect malicious attacks. The IDS technology is based on a sensor which monitors network traffic, analyzes protocols, and performs Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and anomaly detection. Industrial IDSs use the same technology, while also supporting Industrial Control Systems (ICS) protocols. They monitor the operational network via the span port. By design, this technology alerts and reacts to activities as they occure in the network.
